Wearing the Mask

Today we live in a society where it is common to wear face masks because of Covid-19. Before 2020, it wasn't very common to see people wear masks unless it was Halloween, a special occasion, or if you were at a convention. I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on wearing a face mask during this time.

You would think everyone would be okay with wearing face masks out in public, but that's not the case. Where I live in Southwest Florida, it's not a requirement to wear masks everywhere you go. Some people may be surprised at how many people here choose to not wear mask at all out in public. There's this Subway sandwich shop that I go to by where I live and there have been two separate occasions where people have gone inside without a mask on and because they were refused service for not wearing a mask they stormed out furious threatening to never go there again.

The way I feel is that it's totally not worth it to stress yourself out over it. Just wear the mask. It's for the protection of our health. I mean, come on. Why be careless of your own health. Millions of people have actually died because of Covid. By wearing your mask, you're not only keeping your health safe, but also the health of other people around you by not spreading germs.

I don't wear masks inside my own home or when I'm at someone's house, and I don't wear masks when I'm driving in my car. That's totally fine, and obviously we can't consume food and beverage with a mask on. You know what, I will not judge someone for choosing to wear a mask in their car and I will also not judge someone personally for choosing not to wear a mask in public. We have the freedom to do what we want, but I do feel that it's important to wear a mask in the right circumstances. I have actually been called stupid before for wearing a mask out in public, yes that actually happened. That's not right either, everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

Having trouble breathing shouldn't be an excuse to not wear a face mask. There are people out there that have asthma and have trouble breathing all the time and they still wear a face mask because they want to take measures against Covid. I don't have asthma, but I do have allergies that cause me to mostly breathe through my mouth & not so much my nose and I still wear a mask.

(took this picture shortly after I got my new Chewbacca mask)

Ever since I got my Chewbacca mask last December, I have gotten so many great reactions. My mask has brought joy to so many people of all ages. My mask has put smiles on faces, has brought laughter to people, and excitement to kids. Wearing my Chewbacca mask out in public is one of my favorite parts about leaving my place now because I know that at least one person who sees me will get some kind of short joy from seeing my mask.

That's something to think about. You don't have to wear a plain mask. If you're a Star Wars fan like me, you can get a Star Wars related face mask. If you're a sports fan you can get a face mask that has something related to your favorite sports team. The options for the design of your face mask are unlimited.

Think of all the cool people that wear masks. Batman wore a mask. Jim Carrey wore a mask in a movie series. If you're a horror movie fan, Michael Myers and Jason wore masks. Masks can be as cool as you make them.

Hopefully we won't always have a need to wear face masks. Hopefully everything with Covid will be over with soon. But until that time, I will gladly wear my Chewbacca mask. I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts about wearing masks. So until my next blog, I hope you all have beautiful days ahead of you.
