The Year 2023 In Review

(Christmas Day)

The year 2023 was quite the memorable one. I mean, they all are in their own special way, right? There were definitely some tough/sad situations this past year. In today's blog, I'm going t0 talk about the experiences that made 2023 a great year for me. I'm going to share a top 10 countdown of my favorite experiences for the year.

10) Pharmacy

This past year I got to do some training in the pharmacy at my job. When I first started working at Walgreens over 2 years ago, I didn't know where the job would take me. I definitely didn't expect to be a pharmacy technician in training. Learning something new is definitely a good thing.

9) Friend

I got to spend more time with my friend Courtney this past year. Courtney and I first met I think maybe 9 years ago now, when we both worked at Target together. Courtney was a great friend to me after the breakup that I had with my ex, and we've kept in touch since then. Well, this past year, Courtney and I got to hang out a few times and our hangouts were great.

8) Banana Costume

When I was in college, I was a banana for Halloween one year and that costume was a hit. Last Halloween, I decided to bring back the banana costume, and it was once again a big hit out in public. I dressed as the banana at Blue Martini and that Halloween gave me a unique story to tell.

7) Disney World

Even though I'm a pass holder, I only went to Disney once in 2023. Of course, Disney does not disappoint. I stayed at a Disney resort hotel for 2 nights. The first day I went to Hollywood Studios and the second day I went to Magic Kingdom.

6) Open Mics

I went to some Open Mic Nights to practice my stand-up comedy skits. I got some really good responses from the audiences. These open mics also opened me up to the world of Kava Bars.

5) Being an Uncle

I've been an uncle since I was 3 years old. Now, I'm an uncle to over 15 nieces and nephews. To this day, I'm still getting new nieces and nephews. 2023 was a great year for being an uncle because I got to hang out with a lot of them. My brother Jeff brought his 5 kids over here more than once this year. My brother Jason brought my nephew Vashod over here, whom I haven't seen since I was in college. I got some good quality time with my nephew Jeremiah and niece Londyn. I had a new nephew born the day before my birthday and there was the exciting possibility that he could be born on my birthday.

4)AGT

I got to audition for America's Got Talent. The audition took place over Zoom. It was an open call audition, so some other talented people had the same audition slot as me, and I got to watch their auditions. We auditioned in front of one of the producers. I auditioned for comedy and I made the producer laugh. So, I think I nailed the audition. If I hear something next, it'll be late January, early February of this year.

3) VidCon Baltimore I got to attend VidCon Baltimore as a fan. This experience brought me to Maryland for the first time. I got to hang out with my brother Jason one night. Earlier that day, I spent some time in Washington D.C. I also had an amazing time at VidCon.

2) London, England

I traveled overseas for the first time. It was also the farthest distance that I've got to travel with Brian Ballance in the over 26 years that we've known each other. I did a bunch of the really touristy attractions in London. I did also write a whole blog just about my time in London. I also wrote a whole blog about my time at Star Wars Celebration Europe, which was also amazing. This came really close to being #1 on the list, but chances are that I'll be back in London again someday, which is why this makes #2 on the list.

(I went to Buckingham Palace)

1) Derick and Krisha's Wedding

This wedding makes #1 on the list because this was a once in a life time experience. I got to officiate my first wedding since getting my license. It wasn't just any wedding, it was the wedding of my adopted sister Krisha Mak to Derick. That is a day that I'll never forget. I felt really honored to have been asked to perform their wedding for them. My speech brought laughs and tears to all of the guests in attendance.

Those are the experiences that made my top 10 list for the year 2023. What a year. Who knows what all 2024 will bring. I hope you all enjoyed reading about my year. Until next time, I hope you all have beautiful days ahead of you.
