(Chewbacca & I at Galaxy's Edge in Disney World)
Hey everyone. In my previous blog, I mentioned that I got to go to Disneyland in California for the first time. Well, I've also been to Disney World in Orlando many times in my life. In fact, I've been to Disney World in multiple stages of my life; as a little kid, as a teenager, and as an adult. In this blog, I will compare Disneyland to Disney World based off of my experience at both parks.
(My badge for Disneyland)
Like I mentioned previously, I got to take off of my bucket list going to Disney Land in California. Going to "Land" was a special time for me during my Star Wars Celebration Anaheim trip. I got to go to "Land" for the After Dark Star Wars Nite event, which meant that Everyone there for the event got to stay at the park after it closed for the day. The park stayed open until after midnight. Everything at the park was open for us during the event, not just Galaxy's Edge.
At Disney World, they have ferryboats that take you to Magic Kingdom which I always thought made the experience extra magical. At Disneyland, you don't get to ride a ferryboat but you do get a nice trolley ride to get to the Disneyland park.
I was mostly at Galaxy's Edge when I went to Disneyland, but I did venture away from Galaxy's Edge to do some of the other fun activities there. I also rode Star Tours, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and I went inside The Haunted Mansion.
The Haunted Mansion has always been one of my favorite attractions at Magic Kingdom in Disney World, so I had to experience the ride at Disneyland. Since I was a little boy, I always loved scary movies and The Haunted Mansion was supposed to be "scary." I did notice some differences between the "Mansion" at Disneyland compared to the "Mansion" at Disney World. At "World," while you're waiting in line you already get a haunted experience with tombstones and other hauntingly creative items surrounding you. At "Land," the outside of The Haunted Mansion looks like a normal house with nothing haunted about the outside. I will say though, the ride itself is longer at Disneyland than it is at Disney World.
The biggest difference that I found with Space Mountain at both parks, at least since the last time that I rode Space Mountain at "World," is that at "Land" Star Wars was involved with the Space Mountain ride. I don't know if adding Star Wars to the ride was a recent addition that Disney World also has now too, because the last time I rode the ride at "World" there was no Star Wars with it or if that's only something that "Land" has. I thought that was really cool how the roller coaster had Admiral Ackbar talking to us while in line and during the ride.
With Star Tours, I feel like every time I go on Star Tours at Disney World there's something different about what we see on the screen during the ride. I'm not sure if that's something that's done with the ride in general at both parks or if some of what I saw at Disneyland were specific to Star Tours at "Land." One difference for sure is that at Disney World, Star Tours is at Hollywood Studios where at Disneyland Star Tours is in Tommorowland. Tommorowland is also where Disneyland has the Star Wars Launch Bay. I have been to the Launch Bay at Hollywood Studios in Disney World, but I didn't actually go to it in Disneyland. I was plenty busy though.
Galaxy's Edge is amazing at both parks! I experienced most of the same attractions that I did at "World" while I was at "Land." The Rise of the Resistance felt the same to me at both parks. I will say that the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is better at Disneyland and here is why. At "World," Hondo Ohnaka speaks to you through like a TV screen before you enter the ride. At "Land," Hondo is animatronic which is way cooler than a screen because it's like he's actually there. I did eat a Ronto Wrap at both parks and both tasted equally delicious. I did go to the milk stand and when I went they had this new item called a "Twist" that they added to the drinks. When I went to the Milk Stand at "World," they didn't have this "Twist." I don't know if Disney World added the "Twist" after I left the park last December or if the "Twist" is something specific to Disneyland, but I liked it. I got the "Twist" that was more sweet than spicy. I'm not sure how I would have felt with the spicy drink.
One of the magical experiences of going to Disney is getting to see the fireworks at night. At "World" you can see the fireworks by the Disney Castle at Magic Kingdom and by the big dome at Epcot. At "Land," you get to see the fireworks by the Millennium Falcon at Galaxy's Edge, which is where I watched them, as well as by the castle.
The one thing that I didn't get to do at Disneyland this time around that I'm definitely going to try to do next time I'm there, is make a reservation for Oga's Cantina. I did go to the cantina at Disney World and I got a drink that was supposed to take away your tastebuds and it was awesome. I'll get a different drink at the cantina in Disneyland.
Those are my main comparisons for Disneyland and Disney World. If you made it this far in the blog, I hope you enjoyed reading it. I loved my experience at Disneyland. Disneyland is basically a smaller Magic Kingdom with Star Wars added to it. Ultimately, I think I like Disney World better because at "World" you have the entirety of Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot. So until my next blog, I hope you all have beautiful days ahead of you.
