(Chewbacca face mask that I got for Christmas 2020)
Going into 2020 from the year 2019, a lot of people thought that 2020 was going to be their year. Well the Corona Virus pandemic hit and a lot of the hopes that people had for the new year went down the drain. I thought I'd take a look back at what 2020 has been like for me since tomorrow from the day that I'm writing this is New Year's Eve. Some of the things that I mentioned in my last blog where I talked about my 20's are also going to be mentioned in this blog.
) At the beginning of the year in January, before the pandemic got underway in the U.S., I attempted to drive to an audition in Miami for a student film after I got off work one day. Not only did I not make it in time, but my phone died when I got to Miami & I needed to get gas. I didn't plan that very well.
) Shortly after that, I took an online voice-over master class that was taught by Steve Blum.
) When a lot of people were out of work because of Covid, I was one of the lucky ones that still got to work since my job at 7-11 was considered a necessity.
) I have been in a discord group for The Dorky Diva Show and all of the Star Wars fans on there have been really lovely to connect with over the year.
) Star Wars shows like the new Clone Wars season and season 2 of The Mandalorian are fantastic.
) I got to meet my pug nephew Kubo who is so cute
) Speaking of nephews, my nephew Jeremiah started playing for a football team and I got to see him play a little bit.
) One of my adopted dads had his 50th birthday and my adopted sister krisha surprised everyone by showing up.
) I continued my podcast, View Points with JB which can only be found on CastBox. On this podcast I covered the books "The Actor's Life: A Survival Guide" by Jenna Fisher. "It's Your Universe" by Ashley Eckstein and I'm currently doing my own version of audio-books on this podcast reading the stories in "Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales" from The Brothers Grimm.
) I went from leasing my 2018 Honda Civic to financing my Civic as an owner.
) I got to go to a Halloween costume party dressed up as an Amish man, it helped that I had a huge beard.
) The NFL season has been really different because of Covid. Most of the stadiums have 0 fans in the stands. The Seahawks have done pretty well for the most part.
) At the beginning of the year we started out playing our D&D sessions in person around the table. For most of the year we've all met up over skype to play because of Covid. Around the holidays we decided to play in person twice since almost everyone was in town.
) I was able to see both of my adopted families on Thanksgiving, which I was really thankful for. I also got to meet baby Jade for the first time on Thanksgiving.
) I tried Duck Donuts for the time with my bestie, which also led to me starting this blog site with my first blog titled "Nuts For Donuts"
) I got promoted at my job to Assistant Store Manager. This is my first management position at a job that I've had.
) I took 5 days off in a row from my job for my birthday:
- I did a practice round with inexperienced D&D players and then was the Dungeon Master for that same one shot with my usual D&D group two days later. That was my first time as a DM. Both times were in person.
- On my actual 30th birthday I performed my first ever stand-up comedy act that I first started working on at the beginning of the year called Jared-Out-Loud.
If you decided to watch my stand-up, you're only missing about 10 seconds of the act towards the end due to technical difficulties. What you missed after I said that I passed out onto floor is me talking about how my head landed inside that girl's purse and that it made for such an interesting story that I made an inside joke costume based on it.
) Between Christmas Eve and Christmas day I got to see almost everyone that I normally would in between my work schedule, so I was very busy. My adopted brother Greg and his family were in town as well as Glen and his family, so that was really nice to see all of them. My adopted brother Anthony was also in town and came early enough to be in my practice round for the one shot I DMed for.
So that pretty much sums up the year 2020 for me. I survived. If you were able to read this, then I hope that means that you survived too. I hope that 2021 will be a better year for everyone for the most part. I'm not sure if I have a New Year's resolution or not. I hope that you enjoyed reading about my 2020 year. So until my next blog, I hope that you have beautiful days ahead of you.
